Danjugan Island Marine Reserve

year-round, book 3 days ahead

A 43-hectare island sanctuary off Cauayan run by the non-profit Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, with five lagoons, bat caves and fringing reefs you snorkel and kayak with a guide. It's deliberately low-volume, so book at least three weekdays ahead; the day trip runs around P2,750 and the overnight eco-cabanas have no aircon — which is the whole point.

Going? The planner prices every way into Bacolod — planes, ferries and buses side by side.
