The standout of Iloilo's heritage trail and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1993). This fortress-church, finished in 1797 with metre-thick honey-coloured sandstone walls, carries one of the most extraordinary facades in the country: a carved coconut 'tree of life' with St. Christopher bearing the child Jesus, where Spanish baroque meets local hands and tropical flora, its two unequal bell towers once lookouts against Moro raids. Local's tip: take a San Joaquin-bound jeepney or van from Iloilo City's Molo terminal (~45 min), and pair it with the in-city Calle Real district and Jaro Cathedral to make a full culture day.
