Spain's 16th-century stone city, still standing inside modern Manila. Walk the ramparts of Fort Santiago where José Rizal spent his last night before execution, step into San Agustin — the country's oldest stone church (1607), a UNESCO site that outlasted every war and earthquake since — then tour Casa Manila, a recreated 1800s ilustrado mansion with capiz-shell windows and period rooms. Local's tip: come for the late-afternoon light, then stay for a horse-drawn kalesa or the cobblestone bars near Plaza San Luis — and build the day around San Agustin, which is shut Mon–Tue.
