Sohoton Caves & Natural Bridge, Basey
best dry season, Nov–Apr
Just across the San Juanico Bridge from Tacloban (about an hour by van), the Sohoton Caves and Natural Bridge Park is an 840-hectare limestone wilderness reached by canopied outrigger up the clear, jade Kadak-an River. The day layers several moves: cruising upriver between nipa-lined banks, exploring Panhulugan Cave on foot among stalactites and bats, and the centerpiece — a forested limestone arch spanning the river and a cathedral-like cave dome with a skylight over a swimming hole — before guides load you into kayaks for the upper lagoons. Local's tip: it's all a guided system for conservation, so register at the Basey Municipal Tourism Office in the ABC Hall first; tours are easily arranged from Tacloban as a full day.
